Department of Manufacturing Technologies and Machine Tools was established with the founding of Higher Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of Varna in 1969 (now Technical University of Varna) and is a successor of the overall Machine Building department of the higher education institution. The Department has trained students and postgraduates in the field of mechanical engineering, as well as taking courses in other specialties at the Technical University of Varna.

      At present, the main activities of the Department are related to the training of students in Bachelor's and Master's courses in the specialities “Computerized manufacturing technologies" and "Manufacturing engineering and technologies", as well as PhD students in the field of Mechanical Engineering.

Training and Research fields

       Department of Manufacturing Technologies and Machine Tools is а part of Faculty of Manufacturing Engineering and Technologies of Technical University of Varna. In accordance with the tasks carried out in academic and research activities and the competence of available academic staff at the Department are developing the following training and scientific fields:

  • CAD/CAM/CAE software;
  • Manufacturing Technologies;
  • Machine Tools and Equipment;
  • Materials cutting and Cutting tools;
  • Metrology and  measuring instruments;
  • Automation and robotization in Mechanical Engineering.

Department staff

The academic staff of the department including:

  • One Full Professor;
  • Four Associate Professors;
  • Two Assistant Professors;
  • One Co-opted Professor;
  • Three Honorable and part time Lecturers.

Main assets

Main assets and equipment, which is used in learning process and scientific and research activities includes:

  • One lecture room and  4 seminar rooms which are equipped with multimedia projectors and total of 30 computer training seats;
  • 3 laboratories, including the specialized Laboratory "CAD / CAM / CNC systems";
  • Mechanical Workshop and Production Hall with metal cutting and CNC machines.

The training includes the world-wide known CAD / CAM / CAE software products:

  • AUTOCAD (Autodesk),
  • SOLIDWORKS (SolidWorks Corp.),
  • FeatureCAM (Autodesk), и др.
